Blog day 17

Today I went into slocumb to glaze my last 5 pieces. I finished up my essay for my self reflection, and got all my signatures. For the rest of the day I’m going to work on a video that I will have st my table for express fest, and set up my art work. My artwork is still for sale, and so far I’ve raised almost $900. I’m currently filling out my time sheet, then I’m going to send my essay to my committee members and Kelly, as well as my advisor. Crazy to think senior year is almost over. This project has taught me so much about myself and my limits that I can push. Daily hours=3 Total hours=65

Blog day 16

5/20/19 12:30PM As senior project comes to an end, it’s hard to really let go and start cleaning up the ceramics room. I went in this morning to finish glazing my final pieces, and help Kate clean up. I glazed 3 bowls that I made for Kelly, and glazed 3 mugs which will hopefully be sold at express fest on Wednesday. It’s crazy to think that three weeks is basically over and we’ll be graduating in less then a week. Pottery has saved me so many times, especially when it comes to emotions. I’m able to tune out of the world whether it’s a half hr or 3 hours and make pottery. I hope I can keep pursuing my passion for art and ceramics in college next year.  Daily hours=3 Total hours=66

Weekly reflection 3

5/19/19 5:00 PM It’s crazy how fast three weeks can go by. This week has definitely been an emotional week. The other day it hit me that I will be leaving and graduating from this place in less then a week. There have been times in the last year where I hate it here, but then there are times where I feel so lucky to be part of such and amazing school, that outweigh the bad. This week I've learned a lot about myself and my skill with pottery. I’ve learned how to manage my time to reach my goals, and I’ve managed to raise almost $300 more then what my original goal was. Now since I still have people that owe me money for my project and purchasing mugs, I’m looming st close to $1000 which is amazing. I sold 7 pieces of art at the art show on Friday, and make $215. This week a bowl that was really big ended up breaking, so I sat down and made another one. I’ve learned to detach from my art work because when it breaks and your attached, you fill with anger. I’ve learned to enjoy what

Blog day 15

5/18/19 10:15 PM   Today I woke up early and went into slocumb to Finnish some trimming. I got 4 mugs trimmed, and trimmed a big bowl I made for my mom and a vase. I spent some time watching videos on pottery and how to make certain shapes. I spend my last hour putting handles on my mugs, which has been a struggle for me since I started making pottery, but my technique and skill has improved so much in the last 2 weeks. Once this last batch of pottery is fired it will be for sale at express fest. Daily hours=3 Total hours= 63

Blog day 14

5/17/19 10:30 pm Today I sold a lot of my mugs. I went in early this morning after doing the polar swim at 5 am. I trimmed about 3 bowls and a two mugs, I labeled all of my art work and out prices on them. I carried my stuff up to the netting house and  set it up for the art show. I went back to slocumb and made 4 mugs and two bowls. I sold 7 pieces at the art show and made $215. Daily hours=4 Total hours=60

Blog day 13

today I went in at 9. I trimmed a few mugs, and glazed. I unloaded the kiln and priced all my pieces. I sold 2 mugs and 1 bowl. I’ve put aside 5 pieces for people to buy tomorrow. I also reached my limit of $500. I’m guessing I’ll be making around 700 as a final result. I went in tonight for a couple hrs and glazed about 9 pieces. Tomorrow they’ll be glazed and ready for sale. Daily hours=4 Total hours=56

Blog day 12

Went in to slocumb today with the plan to just glaze all day. I glazed about 4 or 5 mugs and talked with Kate about what glazes I should use. A bunch of the glazes that came out on Saturday were really ugly and not what I wanted. So this week I’m going to make a whole mother batch of mugs and bowls knowing what glazes I should use. I had a couple people come in today to look at some mugs, but I told them they should come in later this week or next week to get better pieces. Daily hours=4 Total hours=51

Weekly reflection 2

This week was really big in progress. I glazed all of my art work and fired it. I did about 8 hours of trimming which was a lot. I spent a lot of time at night in slocumb, and went a couple times early in the morning when no one is there. I glazed a bunch of my art work white with another glaze but because the glaze was so thin the color of the clay cane through causing the price to turn a gross yellowish color. Honestly kind of upset with how the glazed cake out because I put so much hard work into making the pottery and when the glaze comes out not the way I want it to I get angry. Tomorrow I hope to try and regulate my pieces and try to stay away from the white glaze, and still with a speckled blue glaze. So far this senior project has been a lot of fun, and I’ve improved a tremendous amount. I’ve been able to throw pretty consistent shaped mugs, and find pleasure in the art work. I’m currently at 49 hours and only need one more to complete my total hours. I’m guessing I’ll finish w

Blog day 11

12:40 PM 5/10/19 Today I went in at 9. I trimmed a couple mugs, and then went to assembly to make my first announcement while attending proctor. It was very stressful. Then I went back slocumb checked in all of my mugs, and went to my room. I’ve been working on a video of me throwing to present at express fest. I am also making a google sheets to keep track of the people who donate. Daily hours=4 Total hours=44 hours

Day 10 blog

5/9/19 10:30PM  Today I woke up really early with the need to make pottery. I went in around 7:30AM and starting making pottery. I hat 8 pieces to trim that I made the night before so I spend 3.5 hours trimming. I stopped around 11:30  and went to lunch. After practice I went back to slocumb and started glazing. I realized I had spent all this time trying to make enough pottery that I forgot to glaze. So I spent 2 hours last night glazing. It’s always a risk glazing because you never know how the piece will really come out until it’s finished and there’s no turning back. I currently have 35 pieces mixed of mugs and bowls. Almost  time to start selling. Daily hours= 5 Total hours=40 hours

Blog day 9

5/8/19 11:30AM When I got to slocumb today I was genuinely happy and relaxed, so I decided why not step out of my comfort zone and make a big bowl. I grabbed a big hunk of clay, wedged it to get all the air bubbles out, and started throwing. I ended up making a reall big salad bowl, which I’m proud of because it’s he biggest bowl I’ve ever mad. After that I threw a couple of smaller cereal bowls and cleaned up. After my game today I’ll go in at night and make a few more pieces. My goal for next week is to have around 35 to 40 pieces to sell. Daily hours=4 Total hours=38 hrs

Blog day 8

10:00 PM 5/7/19 Woke up pretty early today. Went in at 8:30 and started throwing. I trimmed a few bowls. And threw a few bowls. This week I’m focusing on making bowls to even out the bowl to mug ratio. I’m going to start making sets of mugs to sell, as well as sets of bowls. My goal is to make one big bowl/piece a day and 4 smaller pieces. Right now I am at 27 piecss   mixed with mugs, to small cereal bowls, to big salad bowls. Daily hours=6 Total hours=34hrs

Daily blog 7

5/6/19 10:15 PM I got back to school today around 8:30. Cleaned my room, showered and headed into Slocumb around 9:30. I had about 5 bowls I need to trim from Friday and Saturday. I trimmed those, and worked on ordering a proctor academy stamp to stamp into my pieces. I messed up one of my bowls only to realize the mistake made the price more unique and interesting, which I found funny. Some of my best artwork is a result of a mistake. I then went in at 7:30 after my baseball game to blow off some steam and go into my quiet place. I made 4 mugs that are smaller then what I normally make. Throwing tonight really helped me relax, and focus. Pottery had always been a happy place for me where I can separate myself from the rest of the world and just focus on what I truly passionate about. Daily hours=4 Total hours=28

weekly reflection #1

5/5/19 10:35 AM For the first week of my senior project, I learned many things about myself and improve many things when it comes to pottery. I figured out that even though I can sleep in and go into slocumb any time i want, I tend to wake up around 8:30 anyways. I d my regular routine where i take a shower, get dressed, make a big cup of coffee using one of my mugs, head to jakes to get breakfast and head to succumb to start my day. I learned that pottery takes a lot of patience, and focus. You need to have steady hands and focus on your breathing especially when you are pulling to make the piece bigger. If you have unsteady breathing you will have unsteady hands which will end up making your piece uncentered. I've learned to not get attached to my pieces because you will end up being really upset and angry. This week i have found myself really upset and angry because a piece that i had been working hard on folded. Normally when that happens i'll clean up and take a brea

blog day 6

5/5/19 9:50 I went in on Saturday morning because i woke up and felt the need to throw. I got to Slocumb with the plan to trim some bowls that needed to be trimmed but they were too wet to trim, so i wrapped them up in plastic to keep them from drying out too much so i can trim them on Monday. After taking care of those bowls, i sat down with the intentions of making a set of three equal sized cereal bowls. I made two that were similar and then the third on collapsed on itself. I got angry so i decided that was enough for the day. I spend two hours in Slocumb and decided it was time to go get lunch and get  ready for my baseball game. Daily hours=2 totally hours=24

Day 5 blog

5/3/19 9:00AM Today I woke up and headed down to slocumb only to realize it’s reslly hard to make pottery when one of your hands is messed up. I hurt my hand in baseball the other day so I’ll be taking it easy and letting my hand get better. I’ll go in tonight and see if I can make a couple bowls. After resting for the day i went in at night and made a coupe mugs. It was painful but I figured out a way to make pottery not using my pinky finger. Daily hours=3 total hours=22

blog day 4

5/2/19 6:43PM went in this morning around 9:30. Got all set up but ended up going to assembly. It’s funny how things that I use to not look forward to can bring such joy. I used to never look forward to assembly thinking it was a waste of time but being in the meeting house with the whole school brings a feeling of joy. After assembly I went back to slocumb and trimmed a few mugs. I got tired of trimming so I ended up throwing a decent sized bowl. Going to head in tonight to to finish trimming for a couple more hours. Daily hours 5 Total hours 19.

Day 3 blog

5/1/19 8:53 AM I went in this morning around 10. I tried making a big bowl but sadly the bowl collapsed. I found myself getting angry and annoyed so I decided to stop for the day and go back in tonight. I’ve been getting a lot of work done at night and figured tonight will be a good time to throw around 5-6 mugs/bowls and really focus on the design of my pieces and and techniques I use to make my pottery. I’ve been watching videos and plan to try something new everyday expanding my skill and ability with pottery. daily hours=4 total hours=14hrs

Day 2 blog

4/30/19 10:20 PM Today I went down to slocumb around 9:30 again. I worked for about 3 hours making 5 mugs and 2 bowls. My goal for the next three weeks is to make about 20-30 mugs and 10 bowls. But I’m guessing I’ll be making more. Currently I have 10 mugs and 3 bowls. Going in to slocumb at night is the best time to throw because it’s quiet and I can focus. Next week the first set of my pottery will be ready to glaze, and I’ll be trying new glazes and different techniques to glazing. daily hour=5 total hours=10
